Welcome to PKZIP for Windows Installation!! Using PKWARE's
self-extractor, PKSFX, makes installing PKZIP for Windows both
easy "and" versatile.
The following is a description of each area of this dialog box:
EXTRACT TO:
This area contains the directory into which PKZIP for Windows
will be installed. You can change this directory by clicking
on a directory in the box that appears below the "Extract to"
area. To select a drive, use the Drives area.
DRIVES:
Use this area to select a destination drive for installing the
programs and files for PKZIP for Windows. To select directories,
use the Extract to area.
AVAILABLE.. REQUIRED .. EXTRACTED .. "WARNINGS"
These fields provide general information on your system
and about the extraction. "Available" is the amount of disk
space (in kilobytes) of the current drive. "Required" is the
amount of space (in kilobytes) needed to install PKZIP for Windows.
"Extracted" is the amount of data (in kilobytes) that has been
extracted thus far. This number changes as files are extracted.
"Warnings" contains the number of warnings encountered
during the extraction.
The "Extracted" and "Warnings" fields are enabled when you
begin to extract (by clicking on the Extract button).
RECREATE SUBDIRECTORIES
This field is for future use.
DISPLAY MESSAGES
Click on this checkbox if you want PKSFX to display
messages for any warnings that might occur during installation.
Regardless of this field, PKSFX will always display
"error" messages.
CREATE PROGRAM GROUP(S):
Click on this checkbox if you want PKSFX to create a program
group for PKZIP for Windows.
REGISTER EXTENSION(S):
Click on this checkbox if you want to register the .ZIP
extension for use with PKZIP for Windows. A .ZIP file association
will be set up for Windows 3.1 and up, or Windows95.
RUN AFTER EXTRACTION:
This field is for future use.
OVERWRITE:
This area allows you to control whether or not to overwrite
files on your hard drive with files you are extracting during
installation.
NOTE: You would only need this feature if you had previously
installed a different version of PKZIP for Windows, or
if you had files on your system that coincidently had the
same names as the files being extracted.
Prompt: Click on this checkbox if you want PKSFX to prompt you to
overwrite for every affected file.
Always: Click on this checkbox if you want PKSFX to "always"
overwrite the files on your computer with the files being
extracted.
Never: Click on this checkbox if you want PKSFX to "never"
overwrite the files on your computer with the file
being extracted.
ABOUT BUTTON
Click on this button to get general information about PKSFX.
EXTRACT BUTTON
Click on this button to begin to extract the files that install
PKZIP for Windows on your system.
CANCEL BUTTON
Click on this button to cancel the extraction of files and the
installation of PKZIP for Windows.
