Number Converter v1.00 by Paul Tinsley - 26th August, 1995 file = numconv5.zip size = 10,805 bytes This is a utility suitable for the following platforms/programs (unless converted): 1.) IBM PC / WINDOWS 2.) Users of Microsoft Excel version 5 3.) PKUNZIP file archive/extraction utility (available almost everywhere) This utility converts a number into a text sentence describing the number. It has a range of +0.0001 to +999,999,999,999.999 where one thousand million is assumed to be a billion. (I have not extended the utitlity to cover negative figures because this can be acheived very quickly). It is a series of formulae on a spreadsheet which take an input cell and return the answer in an output cell; e.g. 1,059,246.0142 returns "one million and fifty-nine thousand, two hundred and forty-six and one hundred and forty-two ten-thousandths". This is particularly useful to designers of spreadsheet utilities that automatically produce paper documentation or documents of title which need a text description of a number in order to satisfy the requirements of the law (or more "personalisation"). The utility could be used in conjunction with a Word mail-merge adding extra personalisation to a client's letter and thus strengthening the relationship at one of its most critical points. The spreadsheet can sit alongside users applications simply linked by an input and output reference. A little about me..... I am 24 years old, study the Associateship papers of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (if the boredom doesn't cause me to stray onto more important matters!) and work in the Venture Capital Industry as an administrator of large Venture Capital Funds. I have found this utility most useful for the production of highly individualised statements and stock certificates. In particular, this utility has enabled my company to produce very high quality stock certificates without the expense of hiring Printers and edit the layout whenever desired. Please let me know if you have found this utility useful. Don't flame me if it has a kink in its armour - it's up to you to make your own checks. It would be interesting to create a macro to produce printed sheets of random numbers for visual inspection, in order to test this functions abilities. You may find this a little boring though! Paul Tinsley This utility is totally freeware and you may do whatever you like with it. Just remember it is all at your own risk. I am not aware of any utility for Excel that fits the same purpose nor is it my intention to copy or imitate such a utility if it should exist. This utility was created out of academic interest to test a logical process and I have not at this time profited from it in any manner whatsoever.
